Ledger® Live: Getting Started — Secure, Fast, and Simple

Ledger Live is the companion app for managing your hardware wallet. This Ledger® Live Getting Started guide walks you through installation, initial setup, account addition, and essential security tips so you can use Ledger Live with confidence.

1
Download Ledger Live
Official source

Go to the official Ledger website (always verify the domain) and download the latest Ledger Live version for desktop or mobile. Always verify the checksum and prefer the official download to avoid fake apps. Ledger Live download is the first essential step in any Ledger Live Getting Started checklist.

2
Install & open Ledger Live
Install

Install the app and follow the on-screen prompts. Choose “Initialize as new device” to create a new wallet or “Restore from recovery phrase” if you already have a Ledger device. Ledger Live will guide you through firmware prompts and app installation.

3
Secure your recovery phrase
Security

Write down your seed phrase on the provided card and keep it offline — never store your recovery phrase digitally or share it. This is the single most important security step in any Ledger Live Getting Started routine.

4
Install apps & add accounts
Apps

Within Ledger Live, open the Manager, install apps for each coin (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.), then add accounts. Ledger Live supports multiple currencies and token standards; use the "Add account" button to display balances and manage transactions.

5
Send & receive
Transact

To receive, share an address from Ledger Live (confirm the address on your device). To send, create a transaction in Ledger Live and validate it on your Ledger hardware device. Always double-check addresses on the device display — Ledger Live + hardware verification prevents tampering.

6
Keep Ledger Live updated
Maintenance

Updates contain security improvements. Update Ledger Live, firmware, and coin apps when prompted. Ledger Live Getting Started does not stop here — maintain a habit of timely updates.
